From Roger Pittock, our current Secretary
After much soul-searching, and having now had the honour and pleasure of serving 10 years in post, I am not seeking re-election as CSES Secretary. I am looking forward to continuing to support your Society from the Council, but not from the post of Secretary.
I am truly grateful to members for their support over the last 10 years, and I have learned a tremendous amount while in office. The position and experience opened many opportunities during my career.
Please consider putting yourself forward for this role. The time commitment is not that high overall, but comes in bursts. A brief overview follows.
Intellectual assets are our most valuable assets by far but are also the least managed: less than one percent are ever licensed or used commercially. There are many reasons for this poor economic performance, and this course identifies these challenges and solutions for addressing them.
This innovation webinar series, presented by Ideation in collaboration with IEEE UK & Ireland Section, comprises 25 free seminars. It runs fortnightly from Feb 2018 to Jan 2019 and covers best practices in managing intellectual assets. It includes sessions with topics for innovators, practitioners, and advanced IP managers.
As you may be aware, we offer videos of our talks and some other events to members via the website.
Unfortunately, we have a huge backlog of videos from past events still to be published as we (the Committee) currently don't have sufficient capacity to work through them!
We are looking for a video editor (or team of editors) who would enjoy:
- Creating standard title and closing graphics (idents).
- Editing videos as required and preparing them for upload.
- Bringing creative ideas to the process such as incorporation of speakers' slides where available.
- Anything else that you can think of, such as filming events in the future.
Our partners, Essex County Council, are once again running the UK Youth Rocketry Challenge (UKRoC) in our region, with the final to be held in March at Stow Maries Aerodrome.
Many local schools have signed up are now seeking mentors who can assist them with the design and build of their rocket(s). Rocket science expertise is not required!
The anticipated time commitment would be perhaps a 1-2 hour meeting every month, although this can be varied according to the needs of the team and the mentor's availability. You would also be welcome to attend the final, which is normally at a weekend.
Could you help us improve our offering to members? Do you want to be more involved in the society? Would you enjoy socialising with fellow members, possibly over a drink or two?
We are expanding the benefits available to members, and a key part of this is exclusive social events. To support this, we are looking for a Social Secretary.
Please can you help the society by volunteering your time?
