Support for neurodivergence
Neurodivergence, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum, is particularly common in the STEM sector. This is why we are proud to work with the Sanjay Mortimer Foundation (SMF), a charity established to find and assist those with neurodivergent minds to realise their potential through STEM.
The SMF recognises the challenges that neurodiverse individuals can have in their early years which result in students becoming discouraged and disinterested in learning.
The SMF's mission is to find these individuals and support them with a strength-based way of learning (focusing on an area they genuinely enjoy). This can provide an outlet and help them to realise where their talents and strengths lie, thus empowering them, building their confidence and give them belief in their abilities, so that they may go on to pursue a career where they can thrive.
Support is bespoke and tailored to each individual, depending on their needs. Examples include:
- Fees to attend specific training, workshops, makerspaces, educational programmes etc to further the stars knowledge in their chosen field.
- Hardware and/or software allowing furtherance of their education e.g. laptops, SolidWorks etc.
- Resources or R&D equipment.
- Assistive technology to make learning easier.
- Work experience or internships within their chosen industry.
This is available to any neurodivergent individual (including being on a waiting list for diagnosis) aged between 11-25 years, who is resident in England or Wales and has a genuine interest in STEM.
