Take part in something bigger! The below are all excellent clubs, schemes and competitions that provide hands-on experience and teaching, offer career opportunities and/or reward students' and pupils' work.

These range from days in school, through residential courses, to year-long placements, and cover both primary and secondary age groups.

  • CSES Imagine! STEM Club

    A STEM Club with a difference: hands-on masterclasses and out-of-school clubs (all ages).

  • CSES Schools' Competition

    Showcase your project work to professional judges and win cash prizes (years 5+).

  • My Smarter Essex

    Conferences delivered by CSES and partners on cutting-edge technologies and their impact on society (year 9+).

  • Rampaging Chariots

    Teams compete to build and battle powerful, radio controlled featherweight sporting robots. Started at Leonardo in Basildon.

National activities

Schemes that take place in universities and companies or that can come to your school.

  • CREST Awards

    A nationally recognised scheme for student-led project work in STEM subjects (ages 5-16+).

  • Big Bang Fair

    A national science fair including a competition for students to showcase their projects (years 7-13).

  • Smallpeice Trust STEM Days

    In-school STEM days for years 6-11.

  • Faraday Challenge Days

    An annual competition of STEM activity days with a real-world challenge for pupils aged 12-13 years.

  • EDT / Industrial Cadets: Experiences

    Quality STE(A)M experiences for curious young people aged 7-17, organised by age group.

  • EDT / Industrial Cadets: Projects

    Projects that accelerate young peoples' interest in STE(A)M and prepare them for the world of work. Ages 13-17.

  • First Lego League

    Hands-on STEM experience in the form of a robotics tournament with divisions for ages 4-6, 6-9 and 9-16.

  • Greenpower

    A unique challenge: to design, build and race an electric car. For ages 8-11, 11-16 and 16-25.

  • UKROC: UK Youth Rocketry Challenge

    Design, build and launch a model rocket with a fragile payload (ages 11-18).

  • Smallpeice Courses

    Residential courses for years 9-12 on a range of topics, run by professionals and hosted by universities.
