We can now reveal the completed season of our social events and FREE evening lectures.
We hope that you enjoyed the first two excellent talks on Spacecraft Propulsion and Folding Electric Bikes, our inaugural visit to Taste of Italy and the 2025 Chelmsford Science Festival. We are sure that the remaining programme will be just as informative and exciting.
In November, we will hear about Microrobots, machines that are less than 1mm in size, and their potential for use in the medical arena. December sees the return to Chelmsford of Tony Purnell! In 2023, Tony agreed to do a talk for us which was aimed at schools and it proved so popular that it has turned into our biggest annual event, the Christmas Lectures. This time Tony, one of the foremost engineers of the past 40 years, will tell us about his extraordinary career in F1, Olympic Cycling, Aviation, and much more.
The New Year will begin with a couple of talks from the more creative side of life. In January Lisa Galvin from the V & A Museum will talk about links between Museums, Industry and Education. The following month, we will hear from the Director of the Hamilton Kerr Institute in Cambridge about their work in Art Conservation and Research.
In March, we will hear from the Managing Director of a local firm which for over 100 years has been a leading light in the food and drink industry and then, in April, our attention turns to Electronic Materials with a talk from Prof Olly Fenwick.
Finally, in May, our friend Claire Barlow returns, this time to talk about the value, or otherwise, of Recycling in a lecture which bears the best title we have heard for a long, long, time!
So please come along, have a free cup of tea/coffee and a biscuit, and hear from these experts in their fields as they join us at ARU.
This exciting talks programme is complemented by regular social meets at a range of local venues. All dates to the end of 2026 are now available for booking; we recommend that you register for our 2025 Christmas Dinner soon, as the restaurant does get full.
Details of all of these events, including talks organised by our friends at IMechE, IOP and IET, can be found at cses.org.uk/events.
We look forward to seeing you there.
