An Evening With Tony Purnell

A FREE CSES talk for the public by Professor Tony Purnell, University of Cambridge.

Professor Tony Purnell - Trinity Hall Cambridge

Google the name of Tony Purnell and you will find he is an English Engineering Entreprenuer. You might also see that he is a Kennedy Scholar, Founder of the Pi Group of Companies, Principal of the Jaguar and Red Bull Formula One teams, A Professor at Cambridge University, Technical Consultant to the FIA and Indycar, Head of Technical Development at British Cycling and a Non-Exec at the Aviation Impact Accelerator in Cambridge. Over the past 50 years Tony has been all of these things, and more!

As if that wasn't enough he is also a thoroughly nice bloke and at this event he will take us through his career as one of Britain's foremost engineers of his time. His time in Formula One helped to define the sport as we know it today, wind tunnel testing of aerodynamics, electronic data collection, junior teams or the "cost cap", Tony had a hand in all of those! At British Cycling he was behind the teams that enjoyed so much success at the Rio and Tokyo Olympics and now, at Cambridge University, he is part of the team trying to make aviation more sustainable. The fact that Tony's is not exactly a household name is perhaps an illustration of the level of regard that society has for engineers in this country. Come along and find out what makes him tick.

Refreshments will be available from 30 minutes before the advertised start time.
