This talk will explore the cutting-edge world of microrobotics for medical/environmental and industrial applications, with a focus on magnetic actuation technologies. I will share our latest research on the design, control, and application of robotic systems smaller than a millimetre, including their applications in targeted drug delivery, endovascular interventions, and navigating complex environments. The presentation will also touch on the interdisciplinary challenges, from engineering and AI-based control to clinical translation, that are shaping the future of healthcare robotics.

Dr. Ali Kafash Hoshiar is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) in Robotics at the University of Essex, where he leads the Robotics for Under Millimeter Innovation (RUMI) Lab (https://sites.google.com/view/rumilab/). His research focuses on microrobotics, magnetic actuation, and AI-driven control for small scale robotics. He is the UK lead for the Microrobotics Special Interest Group within the EPSRC-funded Microsystems Network and has an MBA with distinction, combining technical expertise with strategic insight into innovation and healthcare technology adoption. Dr. Hoshiar has published extensively in leading journals, collaborated with clinical and industrial partners worldwide, and is passionate about translating research into real-world applications.

Refreshments will be available from 30 minutes before the advertised start time.
