As part of a team at the University of Essex Leo Geer and Fuli Wang worked on an automatic fruit picking machine. The machine was to be an unmanned ground vehicle with two robotic arms to complete the task of automated strawberry harvesting in a vertical growing farm. Leo's research was into the system architecture, navigation, and position control including the software architecture and system design, development, and implementation. Fuli's work concentrated on building a perception - action system to coordinate the robotice arms to reach and cut strawberry stems based on the visual servo. Both Leo and Fuli obtained their PhD degrees in 2023.
Dr Leo Geer is an electronic engineer at BAE Systems. He recently completed his PhD in computer science and electronic engineering at The University of Essex. His background is in intelligent systems and robotics, specifically in relation to navigation and control, computer vision, and multi-robot systems.
Dr Fuli Wang is a research associate at the University of Sheffield. His research interests include agricultural robots and autonomous robots, specifically in relation to perception systems and motion planning.
