Please join us as we take a very uniquely engineering focused view of the medical application of accelerators for a half a day event hosted in Royal Marsden, Sutton.
The first half of the event will see a focus on current technology with Kevin J. Brown, MBE CPhys, FInstP, opening the event as the key-note speaker.
The second half of the event will then move to more future looking technology, including a talk by Nikeel Patel from Teledyne e2v in Chelmsford.
The event will close with a unique opportunity to join a tour of the Royal Marsden radiotherapy department. Places are strictly limited and MUST be booked in advance. If you have not pre-booked and had your place confirmed you will not be able to join the tours.
Event starts at 12pm – registration is at 11.30am.
Parking is limited. Please use public transport where possible.

Evolution of RF sources, Power Electronics and High Current Switches for Medical Accelerator applications
Nikeel Patel, Teledyne e2v
Abstract: A walk through the various products Teledyne e2v has designed and manufactured for Radiotherapy applications. Looking at the three main product lines: Thyratrons; a gas filled high current switch, Modulators, and their advancement from vacuum to semiconductor switches and finally Magnetrons; a self-oscillating high power RF source used to power medical accelerators.
From the early war day efforts of Marconi, through to the newer medical innovations developed at Waterhouse Lane in Chelmsford; there has always been a large engineering activity buzzing away in Essex.
Bio: Nikeel currently works as an Application Business Development Specialist for Teledyne e2v. Tasked with aligning internal and Radiotherapy customer product roadmaps and developing growth strategy plans. Nikeel earned his Master’s in Physics with Medical Physics in 2010 from the University of Exeter and has spent his whole working career within the Radiotherapy market space, be that developing and testing magnetrons, or getting the next generation of Radiotherapy machines that deliver lifesaving treatment with integrated MRI capability to market.
After becoming a parent earlier in the year, Nikeel is committed to ensure the future generation have access to the best treatment options in the greenest environment possible.
