2023: Structures Still Collapse During An Earthquake

Registration is closed for this event
A FREE talk for the public by Dr. Mariantonietta Morga, Senior lecturer, ARU, Chelmsford

The number of buildings that collapsed in the recent earthquake in Turkey shows the structures built with the most recent construction techniques are still vulnerable to significant seismic events. The talk systematically analyses the most common reasons for structural collapse, infrastructure failure, and fatalities during seismic events and the most recent technologies to reduce seismic vulnerability and risk.

The talk will also will also discuss the results of two European projects where ARU was a partner and which looked at the risk of earthquake-induced soil liquefaction and early warning system for earthquakes.

Refreshments will be available from 30 minutes before the advertised start time.
